Hi all,
I have a new blog. I decide to move to typepad and try that out for a while. wanna keep up with me and my adventures? go here.

enjoy!!

Monday, April 19, 2004

"peachy lips. i got me some peachy lips. yeah, yeah honey! uhuhuhuh. uhuh!!"

that is my new song for tonight. i just ate about 15 intense peach smints and my lips sure taste super peachy. i think peach smints might become the crack of the new millennium. they are just that good. try them. you'll become hooked just like me. then your silly ass can write dorky songs at 1am.

hi everyone.
yes.
i have been gone for a bit.
myself along with all my classmates have fallen into a dark, deep hole the past four weeks. we all worked ourselves to insanity on the pushcart class and most of have survived. we finished our carts last week and had the opening a week ago. it was rockin.

enough of my socializing. i will try and remember what has taken place over the past 30 days. some of the days will be spotty cuz the memory isn't what it used to be. plus, while working on pushcarts the days just tend to blur by.

monday, march 22: went to the nursing home to see gita. worked on book project. headed out to jake's house to work on my next motion graphics project. we each got a fortune cookie and now we have to make a 30sec short to express the fortune. jake is going to shoot it for me and then we are going to edit it together. we worked well together. talked about doing more stuff this summer. he taught me good things about editing.

tuesday, march 23: showed spots. everyone's was super good. worked on magazine.

wednesday, march 24: worked more on magazine. table of contents due. worked on cart at night.

thursday, march 25: worked in the woodshop on the cart. met with kevin on where we were at on stuff.

friday, march 26: worked at the times. crazy day. covered for john and we had to close three pages. much to do, but it was good. worked on website.

saturday, march 27: worked on cart and jake came into the city to meet me. we had dinner at molly's and then headed over to jonathan's house. it was his birthday today. we hung out and jake got to meet my friends in the program. also we got to meet jonathan's dog, izzy. he is a total cutie. he ate potato chips with us on the couch.

sunday, march 28: got up and had breakfast with jake's friends nicole and mark. headed back into the city because i had a photoshoot with rena. we did the cover of her magazine/booklet which is part of her thesis. she rented a photo studio for me at the 21st building and a friend of her modeled. we did naked girlie shots which were tasteful and sexy. (kinda like old pin up girl stuff.) it was a ton of fun. worked on projects and then headed back out to jake's cuz he cooked me dinner.

monday, march 29: did my internship. went to visit Gita at the nursing home. worked on my book project.

tuesday, march 30: went to the workshop at 1pm and worked on the cart until 9pm. went back to the studio and worked on the magazine.

wednesday, march 31: worked on the cart some more. probably did other things, but i can't remember. oh, hung out with jake at night. we both know this is the last time we'll see each other for a while. i have the crazy cart project and he is working on a video for the roots. i guess i should introduce jake. jake is my new boyfriend. we have been dating a little over a month and things are going well. jake is a motion graphics designer and helps run a small motion graphics company with three of his friends. other things to know about him: cute, sweet, owns two cats, makes music, lives in broolyn, grew up in minnesota, cooks me dinner and is just generally an all around awesome guy.

thursday, april 1:go meet paul, the illustrator whose work we are using to decorate the walls for the show. more work on the cart. i think they opened the workshop up this week most of the days so we could continually work on the cart. what was happening over these days for me was putting on mirrored tiles, trimming out the tiles and the windows, painting shit. try to get video off of dvds. successful on capturing video of ted nugent on tapeheads. getting dolly parton off of steel magnolias doesn't work. also order buttons for my cart. every good peepshow needs 1" indie rocker buttons to give out.

friday, april 2: more cart work i am sure. finally get the footage that i need of dolly parton off the dvd with a little help from my magic technical fairy. the nugent footage and the dolly footage will be used for my second tv spot. go to web class. work more on homework and other projects.

saturday, april 3: get up early and go to the silk-screening studio with jeffrey. i need photos for my silkscreen book and some packaging that i am working on. then jeffrey and i walk down to canal street so we can both pick up items that we need. go back to the workshop and work more on the cart.

sunday, april 4: get up and have a sore throat. i hope that i am not getting sick. that would suck. this is the last week before the cart is due and i have to get a shitload of stuff done and also get work done in my other classes. miss lunch. feel worse. work with thomas on the decorations for the walls of the show. can barely swallow any more. feel terrible. go get cold medicine and call jake and tell him that i can't hang over tonight. go back to the woodshop and work on the cart until 3am in the morning. my throat isn't any better and i feel like i am going to pass out.

monday, april 5: wake up at noon. didn't sleep too well. my throat is horrible. every time i swallow i feel like crying. it is just too painful. get up and shower. have to go back to bed cuz of feeling sick and dizziness. sleep until 1:30pm. get up and feel a bit better. go to the studio. look up symptoms of a strep throat. seems to match what i have. figure out where i can see a doctor. turns out my insurance is accepted at a walk in clinic on 23rd and 7ave. walk around the studio looking pathetic and miserable. talk to glen about my sickness and all my work. cry a bit because of the stress and the sickness. get my energy together and start to walk to the clinic.

it was the longest walk of my life. i should have taken a cab, but i couldn't deal with talking to people or the effort that it would take. walked forever and felt miserable. got to the clinic. they were super nice. waited a hour and a half. zoned out and tried not to swallow or cry. saw the doctor. got tested for strep. didn't have it. was told to just rest and take lots of advil. oh, and to gargle with salt water. walk back to studio to get stuff i left there. another long ass walk. to pathetic to take a cab. almost cry on the street cuz my throat feels so bad and there is no hope that this thing will go away soon.

get to the studio. bitch to other people about my sickness. more misery faces. go to CVS again for the third time today to get salt, water, advil, throat spray, zinc, etc. go home. sleep. drink lots of water. eat advil. get up at 7pm and feel better. my throat isn't as bad. i can actually eat food without wanting to cry out or scream. go back to my room. watch tv. sleep. watch more tv. sleep more.

tuesday, april 6: get up. i feel better, but i am not at a 100%, but i need to work on the cart. i have missed one day of running errands and working on stuff. go to studio and plan how to attack the day. drink lots of water and eat advil. go to vinyl letter place. order lettering. go to canal plastics and order my mirrored boarder for the bottom of the cart. go to a costume place to get a nurse's hat. need it for my sexual stereotype trading cards that i need to shoot. go home and sleep for an hour. eat dinner and head to the woodshop. work on cart until 10pm. go to studio and lauren shoots me in five different outfits for my trading cards. work until 3am getting stuff done on the trading cards for the cart.

wednesday, april 7: work in woodshop on the cart. have interview for a design job for the summer. seems to go well. go pick up vinyl lettering and the mirror for the cart. head back to the studio for magazine class. we meet, but don't have much done. go over to the woodshop. work until 11pm or so.

thurdsay, april 8: get up at 9:30 to get film for a 11am photoshoot at rina's house. rina is a second year student and i am taking the pictures for her dvd booklet for her thesis project. she is super wonderful to work with and this should be a good shoot. i wish i felt better though. get to apartment and realize that my friend greg live right above her. how weird is that? set up for shoot. all the models are funny and great to hang out with. eat lots of food. (rina saved me some of her matzah ball soup to help me fight my sickness.) shoot tons of film and get great shots. stayed until 6pm and then headed back to the studio in a hazy rain.

i have to move my cart today. it is load in day for the show. head over to the woodshop and see when i can move my stuff. not quite ready yet so i help others move pieces two blocks to the gallery. finally around 8pm we can move my piece. Jonathan, Chris and Chris come over and carry it two blocks. i help a bit, but i am not as strong as them. (thanks guys. you rock!) get it into place. head back to the studio to work on finishing up my products for the carts. the trading cards need to written and put together. the kitchen utensils are together, but they need branding. and the paper dolls are laid out, but they need a cover and to be put together. work until 1am.

friday, april 9: go into the times. john is out of town so i am covering for him. it is a crazy day. I get to assign an illustration, which takes a while since it is good friday. also all the layouts have changed so i get to do three new layouts. also two illustrations have been assigned, but need to overseen and finished. work on all of this until 3pm and then head out to school so i can see gary panter speak. gary panter is an illustrator, comic book artist and the man who designed all the sets for the pee-wee herman show. he is awesome!! great talk. funny, smart and strange. the perfect mix that gets me every time. worked a bit on the website. headed back over to the gallery cuz we are moving more carts in at 6pm. stay at gallery until 11pm and then come back and work on more products.

saturday, april 10: get up and go to gallery. we are getting our places today. work more on the cart and helping other people with their carts. also work on signage for the show. make the sign for the top of the cart. go back to the studio and work until 2am on products. almost all done.

sunday, april 11: we need all products done by 6pm so we can put them on the cart. i scramble and get most of mine done. walk them over by 6pm and find out kevin is not there. go back to studio and finish more products. not everything is done, but enough so you get the idea. work in the gallery moving people's carts around, working on the sign and getting the show in order until 2am. we put my neon on the cart around midnight and it looks beautiful. i am now a proud owner of a 2' x 3' neon naked pink lady who is bending over showing her ass for the world to see.

monday, april 12: go to my internship. super tired and beat so i head out around 1pm so i can get some sleep. (it is a chill day so steven lets me go.) sleep for an hour and then i head over to the studio to finish a couple more products. go to the gallery. final touches to cart. get dressed in my catholic school girl outfit after all i have to match my peepshow cart. show starts at 6pm and it is super crowded. everyone likes the carts. the show is a big hit. becky and steve stop by to see the cart. jake also takes time out from his crazy video work to come out and see it. it is awesome to see him. haven't seen him in two weeks. miss the boy. meet lauren's parents. meet chris john's girlfriend. after the show is over we all go to grand saloon and get dinner. we toast and drink and eat and feel generally good about what we just did. it has been a crazy, stressed month, but we did it. too bad we can't celebrate more, but we have tv class tomorrow and have to get our homework done for that. i can finish my spot tomorrow so i head out to brooklyn to see jake.

tuesday, april 6: head back into the manhattan from jake's. take a hour nap and then head into the studio to finish my spot. it looks pretty good. go over spots and i get a thumbs up on mine. talk to bonnie about my next spot. work until 2am on magazine layouts. have to get caught up in everything else since the cart is now over and we have two weeks before finals.

wednesday, april 7: work more on the layout. go to pentagram to hear michael beruit speak. great place and amazing work. michael is awesome and totally down to earth. head back to studio. meet as a class and go over everyone's magazines. meet with group after class and go over the magazine more. try and make it more cohesive. work on book stuff.

thursday, april 8: continue working on book stuff. then work on web stuff. get my home page and secondary page done.

friday, april 9: web class. continue working on web pages in class and until 10pm. get all pages built out in photoshop. now i just need to take them all into dreamweaver. fun. go out and get drinks with araba and her friend jeremy. hear lots of stories about araba from grammar school and high school. go to convience store and buy a zinger. then go to another bar where araba learns how to play cricket. (darts.) she almost kicks jeremy's ass. pretty good for a beginner.

saturday, april 10: sleep in until 2pm. my body is trying to catch up on all the sleep i missed during the cart class. it is a beautiful day out. around 70 or so. go to the studio. work on my next spot for bonnie. take a break and tooked natalie, thomas and jeffrey to gramercy park. we hang out and chris r. comes by. we let him in and talk and chill for an hour. we watch the people walk by and laugh at the squirrels and their silly antics. eat dinner and head back to the studio. work more and then go get ice cream with celia, thomas, natalie and araba. work until 12:30 am and then head back to my room. watch the end of ER and then i clean my room until 3am.

sunday, april 11: get up at noon. go into the studio. borrow jeffrey's camera and then head out to do photos for maira's class. i am taking photos of different areas of NY where my friend Gita lived. i am going to make a book of photos and her stories so she can remember some of her life and memories since her memories are kind of fuzzy. go and shoot gramercy park and the national arts building where she once worked. go up to 78th street and shoot the area where she lived as a child. go down to the west village and photograph a library she used to go to and her last apartment she lived in before going to the nursing home. it was awesome to get out on such a beautiful day and explore and shoot NY. but at the same time, i felt bad because i was out in places gita used to frequent all the time and now she is confined to a wheelchair in a nursing home. it was a bittersweet feeling. also it was interesting to see where she had been and what she may have seen.

headed back to the studio and worked on the magazine, tv spot and other work. talked to jake over email. they are pretty much done with the video. yea! now he can sleep.

slacker=my middle name when it comes to this blog. but part of me feels it is forgivable that i neglect this little guy every once in a while. after all, i am in graduate school and school picked up speed two weeks ago. we spent the first part of the semester concepting and firming up ideas; and now, execution time is here. Time to produce everything that started as a thought a month or so ago. (and this is for all classes. all six.) so basically, i am busy and buried, but i am loving. i like to be busy. it is better then sitting on my ass and picking my nose.

i'll start off my spring break. it wasn't really a break. i actually worked more over those 7 days then i had most of the semester.

monday, march 8: went into the Times. I am in charge of putting up a show in the art department gallery. the artist is Ross MacDonald who is an illustrator, letterpress printer and a prop maker. i met ross before when he invited a group of us out to his farm in the fall to learn to letterpress. He is a super nice guy and wonderful to work with. Anyways, i went into the Times early and worked on organizing things for the show. ross, his wife and his daughter came around 1pm with all the artwork for the show. We figured out the titles to all the pieces and with the help of Mike, the carpenter, arranged the placement of the pieces. The MacDonald's headed home and I stayed to order all the food and do more work on the show. Stayed until 6:30pm that day and didn't really have lunch. Went home, had dinner and headed over to the workshop around 7pm. I had gotten my wood the day before and wanted to start cutting it. Mark, the shop manager, cut all my wood and helped me start to attach it to my cart. i walked out at 9pm with the skeleton of my cart put together. went back to the studio and worked on title cards and posters for the show until 1am in the morning.

tuesday, march 9: got little sleep. my body decided it wasn't tired and stayed up until 3am. In total, i got around 6 hours of sleep. headed back up to the Times. Mike, the carpenter, rocked it before i came in. He hung most of the artwork and it looked so good!! Ross framed all his work in various old picture frames and it looked fabulous. mounted the title cards and worked on the show more. headed home around 5pm. Ate dinner and headed to the workshop. worked more on the cart. headed out to williamsburg around 8pm or so to have dinner with a friend. stayed out late and had a great time. good to have a break.

wednesday, march 10: woke up tired again. felt sick. too much work and not enough sleep. back up to the times around 2pm. hung all the title cards and did more work. i cannot remember what it was right now, but i was busy during all these days. making phone calls, talking to people about various logistics with crowds, updating the RSVP list, securing space, etc. lots and lots of running around, bugging people for answers and just general organizing. amazing how much time everything took up, but it was worth it. left around 4 or so and walked down to 38th to pick up my fabric for my cart. then walked over to homefront hardware on 29th to get more supplies for the cart. went back to the studio to drop off stuff and then headed over to the woodshop. worked more on the cart. cut the openings for the windows on my cart. went out at night and had drinks with lauren and araba. we needed a break from the week and had all been down in the woodshop working. lauren's friend john joined us at international bar. chill evening. it snowed that night. pretty.

thursday, march 11: finished the intro poster for the show. did other stuff. today, my friends val, robyn and rachael are coming in from chicago. they are coming to celebrate my birthday which was last week and to see NY since they have never been here. they are staying for four days and i am super excited to have them here. yea!!! they arrived around 2:30pm or so. they got food to eat and then i walked them over to see my studio. unfortanly, i didn't have much time to spend with them because i had to head up to the times and be there by 4:30pm to get ready for the show. it's okay though. they are coming to the opening and we will hang out afterwards. get to the times and put the finishing touches on the show. get the food ready and the reception room. finally at 6:30pm, i head downstairs to check people in. have fun sitting at the front desk and admitting everyone. everyone was super nice and the security guard and i became fast friends. by the time i left at 7pm, we had around 80 people show up. (pretty damn good!!) went up stairs and found the girls. they dug the show and seemed happy. they headed out to a bar and i promised to hook up with them later. hung out at the show. met some people. became friends with one of ross's old interns. invited him to come and hang out with the girls and I. headed off to the village. got some hot dogs, hit a couple of bars and then we all went back to the gramercy park hotel where the girls were staying. hung out in their bar until 3am. finally headed home.

friday, march 12: got up late. my body finally crashed from the week and the drinking from the night before. went into the woodshop around 1pm to do some work. was cranky, groggy and out of it. took me way longer then i wanted to get stuff done. finally got my doors on and made them slide. caught up with the girls. they had been at the metropolitan museum of art all day. seemed to have had fun. i felt guilty to have left them to their own devices today. feel like am not being the best host. i think they understand. promise not to work on any school over the next two days. will just hangout with them. we head down to a bar in the east village where i had invited the handful of people that i know in NY to celebrate my birthday. the bar is usually super chill, but tonight it was total craziness. turns out they were having some crazy maximum party there. thomas, sam and their friend from canada showed up. Araba and lauren also came. everyone had fun and seemed to ignore the annoying crowds surrounding us. headed off to get hot dogs again at grif dogs. then it was home again.

saturday, march 20: got up and met the girls at union square at the farmer's market. we decided to go up to macy's and H&M for some shopping and then wanted to head down to chinatown. got through macy's and a little of H&M and decided we were too tired to do more. came back to the neighborhood. had some food and beer. val and i walked around the neighborhood looking for a good place for dinner as rachael and robyn hung out in the room. (we wanted to have one nice dinner to celebrate my birthday and robyn's.) val and i wandered all over looking at restaurants that lauren had suggested. found one that worked. then we went and got hot chocolate at this place on 18th. the BEST, MOST AMAZING hot chocolate ever!!!! heaven in a cup! went back to the hotel. girls got ready and then rachael came to see my room as val and robyn waited for their friend from milwaukee to come have dinner with us.

dinner was lovely. we ate at Friends of the Farmer. good home cooking in a cute, small restaurant. the vegans were happy and the meat-eaters were happy. val and rachael paid for dinner for robyn and I. it was super sweet. i have the best, most loving friends. so good! while at dinner, sam called and said some MFA illustration students would be meeting at a bar a couple of blocks away and we should meet them. went and met them. araba and thomas showed up later. good time. jessica, an illustrator from the MFA illustration program, was there. had met her in the fall. super cool chick. was good to see her again. val, rachael and robyn got along well with everyone and later pulled me aside to tell me how awesome my friend in NYC are. happy to see the chicago friends and the NYC friends digging each other. headed back to the hotel for mojitos. robyn couldn't finish hers so val and i split it. robyn left and val and i stayed and talked. it was good go have a one-on-one conversation with val. i miss that. we used to have drinks at least once a week in chicago just to talk, bitch and laugh. i do that with people here, but it isn't like val. val is my oldest and one of my closest friends. she knows me better then anyone. she told me how hard it was for her to have me leave. and that chicago isn't the same without me. funny, i never thought she or anyone would be so affected by me leaving. it's flattering. as usual, val and i had a wonderful, thought provoking conversation about our goals, boys and our lives in general. a good time.

sunday, march 14: went over to see the girls. decided to head down to chinatown. wandered around there a bit, but it was a bit too cold. decided to go back to the hotel and just hangout and watch tv. went and got pizza with val which we brought back to the room. Grease was on and we all watched it singing all the lyrics which we knew by heart. finally, i said my good-byes around 10pm and headed to the studio. need to shelf books which i had neglected over break. worked until 12:30 and then went home to bed.

monday, march 15: i am super stressed. i have been since saturday. the girls noticed and i felt bad that my mind was elsewhere, but i felt that i didn't get the stuff done that i wanted to over spring break. freaking out over all the work i have to get done. freaking out over my TV spot which i didn't really work on. just basically stressed and freaking. need to do yoga. go into the times and do work. leave around 3pm to go to my meeting with Maira Kalman. we are meeting in small groups with maira to discuss what we are doing for stories about the people we have been visiting in the nursing home. my idea goes over well. will be making a small book with photos that i have taken around NY that are in neighborhoods or that tie into my person's life story. should be fun. book class is next. continue working on my project. after class, work on my television spot. collect new footage and hope it works. i've been racking my brain all week for a new spot or the "perfect" solve, but it doesn't come. sigh.

tuesday, march 16: continue working on spot. show it in class. get good feedback. feel that it isn't as bad as i thought. i can tweak it and make it work. feel better. we got fortune cookies in class with which we have to come up with a 30 sec short. mine says, "The important thing is to express yourself." hmmm?there is much i can do with that. met with my magazine group. figure out the structure of the magazine and i come up with a table of contents.

wednesday, march 17: go into the woodshop and work for a bit. go back to the studio around 3pm. my friend alex is coming into lecture about music composition for commercials. a handful of people show up, but alex doesn't seem to mind. it was a great lecture and everyone who came seemed happy with it. i am amazed that alex and i have know each other for 10 years and really haven't hung out or had interaction over the past 6 years, but we still both share a lot of the same ideas and philosophies. funny that we have had two different paths, but ended up having experiences that molded our beliefs in similar ways. had magazine class. steven heller gave a lecture about portfolio magazine. julie talked about the business side of magazines. headed out to a movie with my friend jake. we had drinks and saw city of god. it was my second screening and i still loved it. an amazing, amazing movie.

thursday, march 18: worked on stuff in the studio. worked on freelance. met kevin and the class at the 23rd gallery space to see where everything is going to go for our cart show. went over to the woodshop and put together my shadowboxes. came back to the studio and finished up my freelance.

friday, march 19: got up super, super early and went to the dentist. my body didn't let me sleep so i got 4 hours of sleep. the dentist was cool. i got to the NYU school where dentistry students work on me. so interesting. had fun watching everything that i forgot that i was tired. my dentist is a super nice indian woman. she took 19 X-rays of my teeth and explained everything she was doing. learned much. have to go back two more times, but i have insurance through them so everything is paid for. yippee!! went home and went to bed for two hours. had website class. seem to be in an okay position. now just need to start building my site. ieeeeee?web design. should be okay. just a little slow at it. worked on my website at night.

saturday, march 19: went out to brooklyn to meet kris and go to home depot. the trains were fucked up so it took me an hour and a half to track chris down. finally found him and we headed to home depot. luckily, it wasn't to crowded there so we found what we wanted and got out. got back into the city around 2pm and found out no one was in the woodshop. there was a crazy war protest that day that had messed up all the traffic all over manhattan. kris and I avoided it because we were taking the trains. got lunch at pete's place with kris and then headed back to the woodshop. spackled the inside of my shadowboxes and began to paint my cart. it looks pretty cool. went out with natalie, chris and kris. stayed out late and ended up this french place on park place. had pate at 3am. good. surreal, but good.

sunday, march 21: came into the studio and worked on my book project. finished my dvd. also worked on my second TV spot and figured out what i was doing with my fortune. ran around manhattan looking for pink spray paint, meat tenderizers and turkey basters for my cart. worked on my cart a bit too. went home and did laundry.

good night all! must sleep. have work to do tomorrow on my cart.

Monday, March 08, 2004

just finished cutting up some cheap black plastic spatulas. I am using them for the push cart that i am making for my 3-d class. i am turning them in to S&M riding crops. so far, i've made one, but it looks pretty kick ass. just need to figure out how to use this 5 minute epoxy for binding the entire thing together and i am golden.

listening to appleseed cast. the album grew on me. not as addicted to it as the good be tanyas or the postal service, but it's good.

on to my week:

tuesday, march 2: end of the night. talked to val for about an hour. she is buying a house in milwaukee. i am a little bit jealous. we talked about how we kinda switched dreams. last year at this time, she set on getting into graduate school and going to get her phd. and i was sure that the graduate schools would reject me and then i could just peacefully buy a condo in chicago and look for a new job. Instead, i got into the graduate school of my dreams and val didn't. I moved to NY to go to school and val is now going to be running her own restaurant and buying a house in milwaukee. we are both happy with our places and wouldn't have wished for anything else, but we both are a bit envious of what the other has. we know that someday though i'll get a house and val will get a phd. also found out that milwaukee has much help for first time home buyers. good things to keep in mind if i decide i want to move there in a couple of years.

wednesday, march 3: went to industrial plastics on canal. that place fucking rocks!!! they have all the plastic you would ever need. i got a 1/8 plastic rod for building my riding crops and then i headed uptown to get some leather piping to put on it. found some great piping at a place on 38th. went back home and had lunch. went into the studio and worked on the editor's letter for the magazine. finished it and headed over to the hardware store to get glue sticks for Kris's glue gun. i am going to glue gun all the piping to my kitchen/S&M gear. glued one wire whisk. all i have to stay is that glue guns rock! i suddenly realized why so many middle aged women love them. maybe i'll start crafting boxes with tons of tacky flowers on it and selling them at flea markets. never know, it could pay for graduate school.

had magazine class. we talked about how to put an issue of magazine together and how to go about writing articles. i showed julie some of my photography since she had done photo with me at northwestern. she really liked my lomos. it is the second complement that i have gotten on my lomos from one of my professors in over a week. think that is a hint that i need to do something with them.

worked after class on my products for kevin. finished my riding crop/spatula and my S&M wire whisks. they look good. then i started on my trading cards. got most of it done. just need to do the photos for them. going to try and do them over spring break. maybe the girls can help.

thursday, march 4: it is my birthday. i am thirty. i am happy to be old. happy to be done with my twenties. ready to rock my thirties. funny, i thought thirty sounded so old when i was sixteen. i never thought i'd get here. also never imaged that i would be doing what i am doing. it is strange.

got up early. opened my presents from my parents. did some exercise. wanted to feel pretty so i put on my green silk dress. had a plant waiting for me at the front desk. from mom and dad. went to school where a beautiful flowering plant was waiting for me from natalie. jonathan put a birthday greeting in my drawer and cem gave me a red daisy. others wished me happy birthday and jeffrey gave me Bitter with Baggage Seeks Same. worked the rest of the day on more products for kevin. Got many birthday messages over email and phone.

Fred Sieger came in and spoke to us. He was awesome. he worked for mtv, nickolodian, hanna barbara as an executive producer. he was extremely candid and funny to listen to. once again, learned much from the lecture.

went to kevin's 3-d class. lauren, natalie and araba had gotten cupcakes from four different bakeries in NY and made yummy homemade cupcakes for me, my professor and my classmates. i got to sample all the cupcakes and decide which is my favorite NY cupcake. I had to agree with the NY times article on cupcakes. Sage bakery had the best. It was also my professor, kevin's birthday. he was just as excited by the surprize as i was. found out that he was born at 8am in the morning by cessiarian just like me.

we talked about the upcoming show. we only have five weeks to finish everything. that is scary. volunteered for the instillation group for the show. will be fun to put the look and the feel of the show together.

after class, lauren, mark, araba, natalie, thomas and I headed over to Grand Saloon for dinner and drinks. Kris and Chris met us later. good drinks, conversations and food. finished off the evening by heading home and opening the package lisa had sent me. she is such a sweetie. i can't believe that i have only known her for a year or so. it feels so much longer. i am sad that i didn't meet her four or five years earlier so we could have more time to hang out in chicago before i came to NY.

good birthday. i am luckly to have such loving friends and family. thank you.

friday, march 5: got up and worked on my website. steven heller and glen came by and sang me happy birthday. they were both off key and non-harmonizing. it was flattering and funny. made wireframes of what my user flow will be. went over it with Chris and he had some good suggestions. also we had a great discussion about ska music. worked on my products up until midnight when i went out with thomas to meet cem, julia and jonathan at a club called siberia on 40th. julia's ex-boyfriend's band was playing. hung out there until 1am and then thomas and his roomate, sam and i all headed back to cem's house. we hung out there with emre, cem and one of their friends until 3:30am talking about music, design and each others moms. (don't ask.)

saturday, march 6: got up super, super late. becky called at 10:30am and we decided to go to the sex museum. went back to sleep until 2:30pm. walked up to the musuem. grabbed a bagel for lunch and got pounced on by a rain shower. finally, got to the museum. becky and i spent 2.5 hours there. unfortaintly, the show was diappointing. the organization sucked. becky, who is getting her phd. in history, kept pointing out discrepancies. besides the problems with the content, the design was terrible. one couldn't tell where to look. tags were sloppy put together and the spaces/flow of traffic was poorly thought out. i still enjoyed the show, but was sad that they had such a great/no-brainer subject and had to take away from it by poor design and organization.

headed down to little italy afterwards. becky need to pick up some antipasto for kate's sopranio party on sunday night. we had dinner at Cha Cha's. good pizza and spimonie. went back to the studio. came up with a list of things to buy on sunday for the cart. worke on other projects.

sunday, march 7: got up and went to houton's. Rina orgazined a bunch to celebrate jeff and kelly's engagement. I finally got to meet kelly. she is super, sweet. her and jeff are good together. talked about the program, shows in NY and other things. after we finished, i headed off to homefront hardware on 29th. Got epoxy, meat tenderizers and basters. next, i hit the $1 store to get more spatulas. at 3pm, i headed to the shop to see if i could pick up my cart. helped Kris, Jonathan, Kevin, David and Jong Woo unload the van of wood. then Kris, Jonathan and i talked to kevin about buying wood and where/when would be the best to get the wood. kevin decided we should go up to homefront hardware with him. it might be a bit expensive, but since he had a van we could get the lumber today and not pay delivery for it. took forever to get the wood we wanted. they didn't have enough of everything in stock, but with kevin's help we finally figured it out. got back and unloaded everything. Kris, Jonathan and i feel awesome for getting our wood. one big step done in getting this project done. tomorrow, i'll go in and cut everything. i have to say one thing though. Kevin O'Callahan rocks!! he spent a couple hours of out his day carting us around to get wood and helping us figure out what to get. He also got 10% taken off cuz we were students. a great, great guy.

went and got dinner with the boys. came back and worked on signage for the ross macdonald show. cut up my spatulas and now i am doing my blog.

have a good night!

Tuesday, March 02, 2004

okay. i am going to try and keep up with this diary thing as stuff happens. it is better that way. it will make it less like a list of what i have done in graduate school and more of what is going on in my head. basically, more personal and narrative.

so we'll start with yesterday and move on to today.

monday, march. 1: wow! it is march! can you believe it? i can't. i will be 30 in three days. i told david that today. he was amazed at my age. he thought i was 26 or 27. it's funny. a lot of people think that. i guess that is good.

went into the NY times. (my internship.) worked on stuff for the gallery show that i have to put up next week. also archived stuff and worked on things for steven. good day. i love to get out of the studio and be in a work environment again. funny, but i kinda miss the 9-5 lifestyle.

went to the nursing home and my friend was in a great mood. we talked about photography. came back to the studio and worked on my next product for my book class. as my other products, i am doing packages of limited edition posters, a DVD and a silkscreening kit. today i worked on the DVD. it came out looking pretty okay. after class, i worked on my next spot for bonnie's class. found more pictures that could work. also need to find music.

tuesday, march 2: came in and worked more on my spot. found more pictures and a song that worked. then i spent a couple of hours editing it all together. it is nice, but doesn't quite have the substance of the other piece. i like doing motion work, but don't know if i have the knack for it. hopefully, i can take some classes this summer and get better at it. i want to get better at it. it would be fun to make a movie and tell a story that way. finished the spot.

class was good. my first spot got a thumbs up on the new tweaks. yea! it's funny. i can't tell if it is good anymore. i have seen it too much. the other spot, bonnie raised the same questions that i have. basically, the spot has a good idea and now, i just need to figure out how it goes together so it works. oh, it was bonnie's birthday. we had cupcakes from magnolia and milk. (happy birthday bonnie!) how weird is that? bonnie's birthday today, mine on thursday, lauren's friend adam's on friday and lauren's b-day on saturday. so many little pisces. i am surrounded.

after class went and got a drink at the german bar with chris and lauren. had pizza for dinner and now i am back in the studio. i should be working on my editor's note for the magazine, but i working on my blog instead. it is a little more fun.

thomas lent me appleseed cast tonight. listening to it for the first time. the first listen is good. i usually have to listen to something a couple of times before i can love it or decide if i even like it. right now, they seem to match how i feel. funny, i'd never heard their cd before. saw them once live in chicago. remember i liked them. but loved the opening band more. mates of state. sigh. beautiful and amazing. i hope i can grow up and be them one day.

okay. i should do a over-gloss of the last week of graduate school since my audience for this tiny blog is getting larger. (found out my parents now read it. my dad told my mom about visiting the sex shops. how weird and funny is that? hi [wave] mom and dad!!!!)

monday, feb. 23: internship. good. need to do the invite for the show. visited the nursing home. my friend was a little down in the dumps, but my visit seemed to cheer her up. met one on with howard to discuss our book projects. rethough some of my products. worked more on my piece for bonnie. put on the finishing touches and worked on storyboards for the second spot. oh, also got up early and went into ID magazine to find out about a freelance/intern oppertunity. Lauren and I are helping send back enteries from a contest. It was cool to see their head quarters and meet the people that worked there.

tuesday, feb. 24: did work for ID in the morning. came back into the studio and worked more on my storyboards and my TV spot. showed the spot and got good feedback for it. my spot got shot down, but bonnie helped me flesh out another idea so i know what to put together for next week. worked on pulling together images for the layouts for the magazine. came up with headlineds, subheads and images. went to bed at 2:30am

wednesday, feb. 25: got up at 9am. super tired and crabby. went into ID. lauren was there today. we had fun talking about everything. i am luckly to have a friend like lauren. she rocks. came in and made some cds to give to the musicians that participated in my cd project last quarter. (i am meeting with them on friday to buy them dinner as a thank you for helping me out.) did a quick layout for the magazine. had a good meeting over our designs. we are going in the righ direction, just need to tweak things. worked on re-drawing some of my cart designs for kevin at night.

thursday, feb. 26: went all over NY. went to canal to get plastics and look for 1" mirrors for my cart. then i went all the way up to 34th street to look for fabrics. got lost and called natalie and lauren to get me unlost. finally found the fabric area of NY. (36th-42nd between 7 and 8 ave.) got tons of fabric swatches. my mom would love this area. everything and anything that you want. so cool!!! walked over to 29th and 3rd to a hardware store. found more stuff that i needed for my cart. came back to the studio and had a lecture with nicholas calloway. he is a kick ass book publisher!! he talked about how the company has expanded out from books to now toys, movies and products. beautful things and a super nice guy. for the 3-D class, we presented our carts to the class. it was good to see what everyone was doing. fun class. worked at night on my webstuff more.

february, friday 27: went back to ID with lauren. worked for a couple of hours. finished up making my cd for the box musicians. worked more on my website logo and wireframes. finished class and met up with steve, mike and mike's wife. kyle got caught outside of town and unfortantly, didn't make it. we went to the chat n' chew on 16th street per lauren's suggestion. it was lovely. good americana food in a cozy atomsphere. reminded me of kitch'n or leo's in chicago. fun to talk about design and music. then went home and watched tv and veggied out.

february, saturday 28: cleaned my room. it is beautiful and warm out. i don't want to work in the studio. i am procrastinating. went into the studio. did my FAFSA. went to the woodshop and talked to mark about my cart. figured out how to put stuff together. went to a cheapy store with araba to get things for my cart. then i went to dinner. came back to the studio and did some work. went out with jeffery. the claytons brothers were having a book signing in the village. it was at the Fuse gallery which is at the back of a bar. hung out for while and had them sign our books. they were super nice and did such kick as illustration in our books. yea!! mine was a weasel/bunny/man with a flower growing out his ear and a G.B.H. tattoo. he makes me laugh. came back to the studio. did a little more work and then headed out with lauren and araba to international bar for a drink.

sunday, feb. 29: came into the studio. i need to work!!!! i am behind. did the invites for the internship show. took me a couple of hours, but it was worth it. they look great. worked on tweaking my first TV spot. it looks much better. then i started on my second spot. did other home work.

music. i seem to muse about it much in my blog. i talk about what song/albums are shaping my world whether i working through projects on paper or pixels while listening to my new favorite album or the blist/tran-quiet that passes through me as i wander the streets to my own unique soundtrack provided by my ipod. it's funny. It seems that i will discuss/disect music with mainly guys. i don't know too many other girls that do this. In chicago, i had john, chuck, josh, brian, pete, etc. to talk about and geek out to about which albums/musicians turned us on or off. Here, my music pool is smaller, but still here. (jeff, chris, thomas, steve, etc.) Why is this swapping of music love so testastrone based? Why am i not addicted to sports in the same way? hmm…

ps-don't get me wrong. there are plenty of girls that i know that love music as much as i do. Val, ana, lisa, micah, nora, azita love it as much as i do. I just seem to find that i tend to discuss music more with boys.

Sunday, February 22, 2004

sunday night. listening to the shins first album as i eat saltine crackers. apparently, a dinner of half a tuna salad sandwich and some butternut squash isn't enough to satisfy my appetite. what i would rather have instead of crackers is some chocolate or a cupcake or a hot fudge sundae. or just a jar of marchino cherries. that would be nice. no such luck though. crackers is all i have.

on to the past week:

monday, february 16: didn't have my internship because it was a holiday. we did have class though. came in and worked on my television spot more. also worked a bit more on my first product for my book class. went to the nursing home to visit my friend. she wasn't in the best of spirits, but she still wanted to talk. during the time i was there two other people and a dog stopped by to say hello to her. i think we all got her mind off of her problems for a while and she was in a much better mood later in the day. had book class. we went through everyone else's layouts and products. worked the night on my TV spot.

tuesday, february 17: went in to my internship. did lots. took down the old gallery show, filled past pages, wrapped up the pictures from the gallery show, mailed out old artwork. it was nice to be working on something else besides my classes. i forgot how nice it is having a normal 9-5 job. good to get out of the studio and the mindset of graduate school and wrap your brain around something else. turns out bonnie was sick for the TV class so we watched everyone's spots and then got suggestions from everyone on how to make them better. still need to order the monster truck video for mine. worked on finding more articles for the magazine class.

wednesday, february 18: got up super early. (yep. 9am is now officially super early in my book.) natalie and i went to get coffee and then we hit the porn stores/peep shows on 8 ave. we went in about four of them. most of the places were super clean and pretty nice. the clerks/owners were friendly and helpful. i didn't feel as out as place as i thought i would. it was fun to look at all the sex toys, videos and magazines. it also was interesting to see what type of guys shop in these stores and to see how they reacted to natalie and me wandering down the isles with them. i checked out a couple of the peepshow set-ups and got ideas for my stripper/peepshow cart. nice to finally be able to visualize what the hell i am going to build.

ordered my videos and various books off of amazon. i fucked up the shipping address on one of the orders. got extremely annoyed at amazon since they have no customer help phone number and you can't change the order after 5 minutes after posting it. arggggg!!!! finally got the amazon number. (google search for amazon phone number for those who are curious.) and it turns out that they can't do anything even if you talk to a live person. how evil.

met on the magazine. figured out covers and wrote up the magazine articles. stressed about it when i was doing it. not enough time and too much to do. the class went well. we looked at everyone's covers and gave feedback. ours went over well. everyone loved the flame/pepper cover version that anna did. after class, worked on sketching out my cart for kevin.

thursday, feb. 19: my monster truck video came. weird. i only put two day shipping and it got here next day. sweet. also my name patches for the logo for my TV network showed up. they are pretty fucking cool. worked more on my cart and the various products that it would have. went to curious pictures for a studio visit. they do various types of animation/motion graphics. nice stuff. came back and presented my cart to kevin. he liked what i was doing with the cart. gave me some good suggestions on what to do with various areas of it. didn't really dig my products. still need to work on those. went out and had a drink with lauren. just what we both needed. went home and did laundry until 2:30am while watching the monster truck video trying to pick out what footage would work for my spot.

friday, feb. 20: worked on my logo for my website. didn't really hit on anything stellar. figured out how to dub stuff off the monster truck VHS to DV tape to get it into the computer. web class was good. chris just caught up with everyone about their sites. i had to duck out early cuz i had a date, but i was pretty caught up on the project. need to send him my site map and ask him what areas he thinks i should map out.

saturday, feb. 21: came into the studio around noon. steven heller was meeting with us to show us paul rand's pitch books. we talked and looked at the books for about two hours. amazing and inspiring. it was nice to hear that rand wasn't the best presenter. he did the books as way to get everything layout in his mind of how to present and sell the logos/design. nice to know that you don't have to be a born salesman to get people to buy your ideas. i am all for working a bit harder on the back end to be able to sell something on the front end.

went home and took a shower and a quick nap. araba came over and we went to the cooper union to see a design show there. more amazing design. got some ideas on how to approach my suppa club logo. went to grif dogs and had a chocolate shake and a NY dog. then we headed over to Toys in Babeland. TIB is another sex shop, but it is a shop geared toward women. it was cool to see the difference between this sex store and the others that i had been in early in the week. all the products were out of their packages. we could feel, touch and play with them before buying them. the place was packed, but everyone was super nice and seemed to be having fun. looked at a couple of sex work books reading snippets written by strippers and peepshow workers. finally, we ended up asking one of the clerks questions about various products. what i loved is that she explained and talked about everything like a normal salesperson. the only difference being that such selling points as 100% cotton, machine wash and designer label were swapped out with clitoral stimulation, battery powered and multi-speed. definitely will go back if i ever need anything.

went home, ate dinner and fell asleep at 8pm. woke up at 2:30am and did some thinking on my TV spots. read a bit of my new book by johnathan frazen. I had read The Corrections and liked it okay. his writing loses me a bit. (too wordy.) his book of essays is a bit better, but still a lot of the flowery, jargoned filled sentences that make my eyes gloss over. went back to sleep at 5:30am and got up at noon.

sunday, feb. 22: got up at noon and ate lunch. came into the studio. finished my TV spot. talked to my parents about their trip to Las Vegas and just caught up with them in general. worked on some stuff for my internship. searched the web for cheap neon signs saying LIVE GIRLS and XXX for my stripper cart. also looked at gag sex gifts to see if i could find any thing that i sell as a product on my cart. now i am going to go home and brainstorm for my other TV spots and my sex cart.

Sunday, February 15, 2004

okay. i am going to try to do what i mentioned that i would do yesterday. i am going to try to blog everyday, even if my fingers fall off and i become a fat twinkie of a girl. i think this will continue for a week or two days or something, until i forget or get drunk or something.

today. sunday. feb. 15: started off the day by sleeping in. my body didn't want to get out of bed let alone move. finally got up, got ready and ate lunch. set off into the wilds of NY to look for monster truck footage, golf footage and books on strippers and peepshows. (how twisted does my life sound? i sound like one fucked up bad mofo.) now kiddies, don't get too excited about this list of sundries that i needed to get. The footage is for a short TV spot for a class and the stripper stuff is for a pushcart that i am working on. (we have do a cart for our 3-d class and i am doing a cart to break the stereotypical thinking about strippers. make people think of them more as women and not one dimentional people.) went to virgin, 2 barnes and nobles and best buy and i only found one stripper book and no footage. guess NY doesn't dig on monster trucks. damn.

came into the studio. found some golf footage on the internet, but i still need monster trucks. if i can't find anything tomorrow, i am going to buy a tape off amazon. worked on my book project for while. then i scowered the internet for peepshow/strip club exteriors. (if you are looking for some, go to corbis stock photos. they have tons!!!) did the cover for my magazine class and now i am going to find out where the peepshows are in NY. going to go shoot photos of them tomorrow. going to go home and maybe do some laundry and read my stripper book. (good book. it's called lapdance and it is by juliana beasley. check it out if you can.)

it's funny, but i can't remember things too this well this semester. last semester, i could go two weeks and still write a pretty detailed summary of my weeks. now, i can barely remember the week, let alone two weeks. i think it is because last semester we had multiple projects and this semester everything is continually being worked on leading up to one final presentation at the end of the semester so everything begins to blur together. hmmm?maybe i need to start up dating this thing every night. that might be a better tactic to take with the blog.

so i will try and remember things?

monday, feb. 2: went to my internship. it was not that busy of a day. got all my work done. also went to the hello kitty store and looked at tons of cute things i could not buy. sigh. someday, i'll have a job again. visited the nursing home. we met our people today. mine is super sweet. she is strong, but sweet. in a way, she reminds me of my grandmother who passed away a couple of years ago. it is fun to talk to her and laugh about things. she thinks my brother is just as weird as i do. went to book class. saw most people's covers for their books. we ran out of time so i didn't get to present mine. i get to go next week. finished up my movie. it is super funny. i animated these two photographs. basically these bunny slippers get all psycho-crazy and attack a little girl biting off her hand. twisted good fun.

tuesday, feb. 3: worked on logos for the channel. i don't have the right font yet, but i am getting there.

wednesday, feb. 4: spent the day getting ready for our magazine class. we needed to redo our manifesto and figure out exactly what we are doing. spent the day writing and figuring what we are all about. also figured out our demographic. everyone in the group seems to be happy with what we came up with. we are a literary cooking magazine. we obsessively explore one ingredient in each issue. the magazine has everything you want to know about the ingredient and more. we also have a section in the middle where we break down the food into the five senses because food is about so much more then just the cooking. there are smells, sounds and sights attached to every type of food. we presented everything and got the thumbs up. we don't have a name and the class suggested Relish. now we just need to figure out a logo.

thursday, feb. 5: met with Kevin on our products. we need to do one full proto-type for next week. i have no clue how i am going to do that. he only liked one of my products and i am still working on my cart. this class is going to be crazy. i am really excited to build something 3-d again, but we don't have a ton to execute this. went home and did yoga. it felt good to stretch out again and work my muscles. came back and worked a while in the library organizing the books.

friday, feb. 6: our web teacher is sick. he had to go to the hospital. this week the guy who is going to help us with flash came in. his name is peter hamlin and he is a great designer/illustrator. he used to work at funny garbage with our web teacher chris, but now he is on his own. beautiful websites and there was a crazy bunny on one!! he reviewed flash with us and then went around the class and met with each of us individually on what our sites would be about. worked on the show in the gallery with lauren.

saturday, feb. 7: came in and did work on the book layouts. need to get shit done!! this week is going to be crazy. have too much do in every class!! eeieieieieie!!!! got becky a birthday gift. it is a book called bitter with baggage seeks same. so fucking funny!! nice little fuzzy chickens in weird strange situations. it is a strange and wonderful book.

headed out to brighton beach around 7pm or so. got to the restaurant a bit late, but that was okay. the place was great. it was this awesome 70s tacky russian banquet hall. lots of overdone russian women with velvet and sequences. i wonder if i would have turned out more like them if my dad would have stayed longer in russia. anyways, there was tons and tons of food. i have never been surrounded by so much food. and then the band began to play. they were this great techno polka band. i felt like i was at someone's wedding crazy wedding.

other highlights of the night: harry, casey's friend, got super, super drunk. he had an entire bottle of vodka in one hour. we were afraid that he was going to get his ass kicked by the russian mafia guys. another good memory was standing in the cold with jeff, jeff, amy and greg waiting for the Q train. we were drunk and silly and it was fun. jeff made fun of me for my coat matching the train.

sunday, feb. 8: came in and worked more. didn't finish what i wanted to. i ended up redoing my layouts for the book. i still don't like them. i need to work on them more later. did some storyboarding for the TV class. we need three spots storyboarded by tuesday. also worked on my magazine logo. meeting on those on tuesday.

monday, feb. 9: didn't have my internship. worked on the book layouts more. forgot to mention that i ran the idea of my book by jay ryan of birdmachine. he said that it hasn't been done before and that he thought it sounded good. went to the nursing home again. my woman was in better spirits this week. we talked about names and laughed about things. i stayed longer then usual. i felt bad leaving her. we were having so much fun. took a cab to book class. didn't want to be late. showed my covers and everyone seemed to really dig them. araba said that they are some the most beautiful things she has seen. she wants a copy of it. lauren had a good idea about putting all the jargon stuff on the cover (ie-barcodes and other bullshit) on a piece of acetate so that the cover could just live on it's own in an undisturbed state so people could use it as a poster. went grocery shopping with lauren, araba and juna. it was funny wandering around the story looking for tuna and grapefruit juice as we talked about classes and classmates. gossip in the produce section. (sounds like an emo band.) worked on the gallery again with lauren. we need to reorganize it. started my storyboards late. worked until 2:30 and only have one done.

tuesday, feb. 10: came in grumpy. need more sleep. god, i can be bitchy without sleep! worked more on my storyboards. i came up with one as i was falling asleep. finished my story boards and fleshed out my manifesto for my channel. we met on the logos. everyone had really great things to show. i have a great group for the magazine. presented the storyboards in class. i don't know why this class makes me so nervous, but i always just want to walk out and tell bonnie i'll email her the ideas. i feel this way every time. but luckly, when i start presenting i am fine. only one of my ideas seemed to work. still need to come up with two more spots. sigh. stayed late working on articles for the magazine. trying to figure out the five senses for chili peppers.

wednesday, feb. 11: worked more on magazine articles. only have a couple. met on the logos again. jong woo came in with a logo we all loved. pretty.

dude!! art chantry came and spoke to my magazine class!! how kick ass is that?!?!? he was a great speaker. I had him sign my copy of his book. I told him about my book idea and he thought it sounded good. he told me to try and shop it around to publishers. we also talked about cherry hut and michigan and st. louis. he is an awesome guy.

presented the logos and the manifesto again. the class went with a different logo then what we liked. it was funny. i felt like i was presenting to a focus group. i guess in a way our classes are like that. you might really like or feel strongly about something, but if something else makes more sense and you have been to blind to see it, the class will let you know. it is good. had lovely takeout from republic. it was called chicken udon, but it was the strangest chicken udon i have ever had. it was lovely, good though. worked on my product for kevin's class. stayed until 3am.

thursday, feb. 12: worked more on my product. it is a book of paper dolls but strange paper dolls. the outside of the book looks like a porn magazine and on the inside it is a normal woman with her information. you can dress her in normal clothes and porn/fetish clothes. it looked okay. we'll see if kevin digs it. present it to kevin. he thinks it is okay. we talk about my other products and my cart. i have to have a super tight final sketch of the cart by next week. eieieei!! he isn't sure about any of my products, but he feels the cart will lead me in the right direction. looks like i am going to tons of porn stores this week for research. went out to dinner with natalie and araba. beers and a good salad. just what i needed.

friday, feb. 13: laid out my sitemap for my website. it is good to get everything i am thinking on paper. i am excited to build this site. i have had the idea of this site for a year or so. josh and I thought it up a couple of years ago and i am happy to finally bring it into reality. chris wasn't back to teaching us yet, but peter was there with a guest. The guest is the IA at funny garbage. he was super smart and well informed. i have never really heard or seen an IA guy think like him. he had great suggestions and ways of helping me think about my site to make it more interesting. yea!!!

worked on putting the finally touched on the gallery show with lauren. then her, araba and i went out and celebrated. we decided to have a hot dog tasting contest. we went to two different hot dog places and tried their hot dogs and rated them. we had three hot dogs apiece. i liked dawgs on the park the best, but would probably eat at Grif dogs instead because they were cheaper. (funny how money wins out over taste when you are poor.) went at got drinks as this tiny bar called castros or something like that. we had some random dude hit on all of us. it was weird. it was kind of fun to see how we all reacted to him. i just laughed at him, lauren talked to him and araba bit her tongue. walked home with araba.

saturday, feb. 14: valentine's day. no sweetie for me. maybe next year. today, we had an open house at the school. i got to work it. it was fun. it's strange to think that i had just applied at this time last year. it was cool to see all these people here interested in the program. someone them will probably be here next year with me. interesting. peter buchanan-smith spoke. it was cool to see his work. he is doing a Wilco book and micheal smelling (becky's old neighbor) is the photographer on it. how small the world is. ate at home tonight. they had a nice dinner for us. came back and fucked around for a bit and then started to work on one of my products for my book project. i am happy with what i came up with. i now have a visual vocabulary established that i can carry through the rest of the products and the book.

the weakerthans are playing in my ears and i am tired. "Where a little boy under a table with cake in his hair, stared at the grown-ups feet as they danced and swayed. And his father laughed and talked on the long ride home. And his mother laughed and talked on the long ride home. And he thought about how everyone dies someday." - the weakerthans
